Josef Caldaron is a gemologist appraiser, and seasoned jewelry expert with a deep understanding of the complex global gemstone and jewelry market. Possessing a breadth of experience that encompasses diverse roles in the industry, Josef specializes in appraisal and advisory services with specific focus in rare, important pieces.
A graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Business, Josef also studied at the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A), where he earned the Diploma in Gemmology, and is recognized as a Fellow of Gemmological Association (FGA). Additionally, Josef studied at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) where he earned the Graduate Gemology degree (GG), Accredited Jewelry Professional (AJP) and Graduate Pearls (GP) certificates. A gemologist with the world's two most prestigious and internationally recognized gemological degrees, Josef additionally completed the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) full appraisal studies curriculum, and is constantly enriching his knowledge through continuing education.
Prior work experience includes: Tiffany & Co. New York City in the fine jewelry sales department, Bader & Garrin Diamond Company as a diamond dealer and appraiser, as well as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) laboratory in Ramat Gan, Israel, where Josef was a diamond grader, having completed a 3 month full-time intensive training program that is unparalleled in the industry. Josef concurrently consults with the Winston Art Group, serving as their lead Jewelry Specialist and Director of Fine Jewelry.
Josef is a member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA), where he has earned the title of Certified Master Appraiser (CMA), being one of less than 30 jewelry appraisers nationally, and currently the only NAJA-affiliated jewelry appraiser in NYC to hold this status.
Josef prepares appraisals for all purposes, including but not limited to: estate tax and planning, retail replacement for insurance, fair market, donation, damage or loss, collateral, and equitable distribution/family division. Additionally, he assists clients with jewelry acquisitions and deaccessions through his extensive network of dealers, auction houses, and private clients.
